Tour Peaks Colon, Bolivar and Simmonds
13 day trip mystical mountain peaks
Service Description
This tour is designed for people who are passionate in high mountain. Climbers must be in excellent physical shape to join this expedition. Fitness is the most important aspect of high altitude climbing. Prior roped climbing, cramponing, and ice axe skills are required. It is possible to climb Pico Christobal Colon, Pico Simon Bolivar and Pico Simmonds without prior technical experience, but the often devastating weather deters inexperienced mountaineers. The peaks are fraught with massive storms that generate freezing temperatures and savage winds. Pico Christobal Colon is the tallest mountain in Colombia (5775 meters), Pico Simon Bolivar the second tallest mountain (5770 meters) and Pico Simmonds the third tallest mountain (5750 meters). In this package you can choose the mountain you'll like to climb. All of them or just one!! It is up to you! Tell me your plan. Ascent is the same rout we take for Tour Nevado untill we arrive after 10 days at the snow boarder where we set up our base camp. We have an early alpine breakfast at 2:00 am to start hiking half an hour later. Continuing the ascent towards the glacier on the edge of the glacier, it will sometimes be necessary to use your hands for support and balance since the terrain is rockier, steeper and sandy. At this point each member of the group puts on a helmet and harness since it is difficult terrain which can take between 1-2 hours. At the beginning of the Glacier at 5200 meters the team prepares to put on the necessary equipment for the summit (crampons, ice ax, glasses). Between this point and the top of Pico Christobal Colon there is 3 km of a strong ascent. For the other peaks Pico Simon Bolivar & Pico Simmond the ascent beginns 1 hour walk from the base camp with less distance and more accessible. If you manage to reach the top and the weather conditions and the time allow it, it will be the time to take advantage of the view, where you will be able to appreciate the different snow-capped peaks of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. The descent will be by the same route as the ascent. Descent time will be more or less 2 hours to reach the edge of the glacier, there we will remove the ice equipment and begin to descend to the Base camp where it is estimated to arrive at 5:00 pm. The next day is planned to rest and recover we have everything you need to enjoy this day to the fullest. Take the same way back to get to the car where we drive back to our starting point. 13 Day Mountain Experience
